We've started our operations already some time ago, but only now we got the moment to sit down to blog.
Time's a scarce commodity.
Since the start of Canceled Weddings we're being asked about our story, so I take the liberty to use this topic for kick off.
My name is Peter K. Ulrich and I'm the founder and lead investor in Canceled Weddings. I'm also founder of YachtWedding and part of the global Yacht Romance Group. New business ventures are my passion :-)
Thanks to my colleagues in the Canceled Weddings team, I got this privilege to write our very first blog entry, but they'll catch on soon and share with you our news and insights from our event brokerage markets in US , Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and India where we operate.
Our story is quite simple - as always the best things come out of pure necessity.
Canceled Weddings is actually a spin-off that originally started last year within an international wedding planner & destination agency YachtWedding (www.YachtWedding.com), which is part of the Yacht Romance Group as well as now Canceled Weddings is.
As you can see YachtWedding organizes weddings all around the globe and with this volume we unfortunately have to deal also with wedding and honeymoon cancellations from time to time. The range of reasons why people have to cancel their event is very broad.
Anyway, we could just let it go as other vendors do because, let's face it, lost deposits would mean easy money - right? But we don't work that way.
We understand the feelings of the bride and groom that had to call off their wedding and at the same time, as market insiders, we know that it's a very tough living to be a wedding vendor. Not everyone has the same infrastructure and possibilities that we have and to resell a cancelled event is thus a tough job, but since we actually have the resources and can help our clients with their deposits, we'd consider it "being evil" if we didn't try.
We strive for customer satisfaction and fair value, therefore in such situations, when a wedding cancellation occurred, we used our network to try to find new buyers and ease the financial burden for our clients. They appreciated it.
Meanwhile the subject of "canceled weddings" became popular in the US and we noticed that some of the YachtWedding clients actually felt more comfortable when they realized that in the worst case of scenario their wedding deposits could be resold and they would get at least some of their money back - so we decided to leverage on our know-how and infrastructure and give a form to what we had actually been doing already in the past - and that's how Canceled Weddings came to life.
Even though the CanceledWeddings.com portal is a pure start-up, we've over a year of history in the field of cancelled wedding brokerage - plus cosmopolitan team on several continents and resources that were previously involved in this area already for many years within the YachtWedding agency.
The good thing is that we know the wedding and event management industry very well. We know how to deal with vendors, how to move contracts and how to protect our clients.
And that's how it all begun :-)
